Bangladeshi-American Nabilah Islam won the Georgia's senate election

Nabila confirmed her glorious victory in the Georgia State Senate District seven general election on her Twitter.

Nabilah Islam

Nabilah Islam, a Bangladeshi American whose parents left Bangladesh's Noakhali district nearly 40 years ago for better opportunities, settled in the US state of Georgia. A lot of hard work and struggle behind her growing up in life war. As a result, She also worked at low-wage jobs as a young adult to help her parents pay the bills. Nabilah Islam lacked health insurance which she found cost-prohibitive as she drew down her limited savings to run for Congress. After that, she made national headlines in January when she petitioned the Federal Election Commission to allow her to use campaign funds to purchase health coverage.

She faced harassment because of her Muslim faith and was a victim of racism in the past, and as a result, she wanted to give people an authentic voice to understand people's daily lives. She wants to create a peaceful environment for the people of the district where she will not tolerate vile acts like racism or Islamophobia.

"My name's Nabilah Islam - so people know right off the bat that I'm a Muslim woman. Being a Muslim, we have a duty to uplift people and seek justice and build a society that reflects dignity and justice... and I'm advocating for that." she said.

Nabilah Islam says her campaign has also been about making sure voters know what her issues are.

"Many of our parents came to this country to fight for a better life - and they see that's what I'm advocating for.

Today, Nabila Islam confirmed her glorious victory in the Georgia State Senate District seven general election on her Twitter and also made her the first Muslim woman elected to the Georgia senate along with Sheikh Rahman another Bangladeshi who won the election.

This happy mood is not limited to Georgia. Many Bangladeshis wished and congratulated her on his victory. A Bangladeshi congratulated him on Facebook, saying, "Never forget your roots."

A resident of Noakhali congratulated her on Facebook saying, "She is the voice of Bangladesh and the voice of Noakhali. I believe she will serve the people of America with much devotion. I invite her to come to Bangladesh."
